The members of „Arman/Aromanian Community from Romania” Association express their deep indignation and concern in regard to the adoption by the Parliament of Romania of a law by which armans’/aromanians’ right to freedom of speech, consciousness, beliefs and own identity has been violated.

Today, 08.05.2013, the Chamber of Deputies adopted the bill for the modification of art. 1 paragraph 1 of Law no. 299/2007 regarding the support granted to Romanians everywhere by which armans/aromanians were included, directly and without being consulted, in the category „Romanians everywhere” and as persons „pertaining to the Romanian linguistic and cultural vein”.

            Armans/Aromanians – members of our association, regardless of the lexical form with which they are denominated – recognize and declare expressly and publicly, a specific ethnic identity expressed through culture, language, traditions, identity which define them as an ethnic group distinct from the Romanian majority population and other ethnic groups.

            By the modification enacted, the will of Arman/Aromanian people was ignored and violated, without any justified and reasonable motivation, thus realizing an injury to their right to identity and an assimilation of Arman/Aromanian ethnic group to the Romanian majority population.

            The right to identity is protected by the Constitution of Romania and all Community legislation which enshrines the right of individual to decide freely and without any constraints on membership of an ethnic group or majority, ruling that no disadvantage shall result from this choice or from the exercise of the rights related to it.

We recall that in the monitoring process of Romania, in the 3 opinions adopted, the Advisory Committee on the Framework Convention for the Protection of National Minorities expressly advised the authorities to consult the Romanian citizens of Arman/Aromanian origin who recognize their distinct ethnic origin and wanting to enjoy the protection offered by the Framework Convention.

It was considered that the authorities should encourage a more flexible and open approach on the implementation of the Framework Convention, examining the possibility of including in its scope the people belonging to groups that are not represented in the Council of National Minorities.

Notwithstanding these recommendations, the Chamber of Deputies adopted a legislative proposal which contravenes to all the principles and rights claimed by the Advisory Committee of the Framework Convention for the Protection of National Minorities.

Although „Arman/Aromanian Community from Romania” Association addressed to all authorities involved in the decision process, notifying the serious shortcomings of the bill, the law was adopted without any dialogue with our organization and without having discussed or considered the position and our arguments.

Including the Armans/Aromanians among another ethnic identity than that freely and expressly declared by them constitutes an interference with a person’s right to identity and privacy, the state being obliged to allow each individual to freely choose his/her association with any cultural, ethnic, social group etc.

Each individual has the right to his own ethnic identity, has freedom of thought and conscience, nobody can be forced to take an ethnic identity which does not correspond to his inner beliefs with regard to his true identity.

„Arman/Aromanian Community from Romania” Association affirms its strong determination to pursue all the steps that are necessary for the domestic legislation adopted internally to circumscribe the principles of respect and promotion of identity, diversity and pluralism, so that the Arman/Aromanian ethnic group benefit by all the fundamental rights necessary for the conservation and promotion of its specific ethnic identity.

Because it’s nonformal education day we invite you to Cultural Society of Aromanians on September 29 at 15.00 where we will await you with: Living Library, Aromanian workshop language done through games and a dance workshop!

Have you heard that one can read in a library not only books, but people?

The mechanism of the living library is the same as of a normal library – books are borrowed by readers for a period, after which they return them and borrow another book. But the books in a library are live people that are actively involved in our guest’s reading. The narrator escapes from his work and directly depicts his story …

The proposed language workshop is quite non-formal and fun. You can compete and learn aromanian words through a “musical” puzzle game. We will not give more details so as not to spoil the surprise!
Dance means creativity, but also tradition and customs. You will have the opportunity to be creative, to learn some original dance moves and have quite the fun!

Anyone can learn anywhere. At any given time.

We await all enthusiastic people, eager to discover new customs and traditions in a nonformal way and spend a wonderful afternoon in our company … The fun is on the house, we guarantee!

Cristian Gaţu (born August 20, 1945 in Bucharest from an Aromân family from Nize Pole, Republic of Macedonia) is the best Romanian handball player who competed in the 1972 Summer Olympicsand in the 1976 Summer Olympics. He has been the president of the Romanian Handball Federation since 1996.

In 1972, he won the bronze medal with the Romanian team. He played all six matches and scored five goals.
Four years later, he won the silver medal as part of the Romanian team. He played all five matches and scored eight goals.

With Steaua Bucharest he won the gold medal of EHF Champion League in 1977, performance that is unique in the Romanian handbal history.

The script belongs to Toma Enache, who is also responsible for directing the show, and is based on the lyrics/poems of 20 of the most important poets, starting from M. Eminescu, L. Blaga, Ion Barbu, Nichita Stănescu, Adrian Păunescu to Ch. Baudelaire etc. Jezebel will perform renowned songs from the international repertoire, with emphasis on the love theme, the theme of the show. The image and video editing is signed by Cristi Săndulescu.

Because we want to continue promoting the mentoring meeting with new Armân song (folk), we are inviting you all meet and discover the singer and the author Corina Elena Badea, whom will sing and will speak about her life.

Corina is a doctor in Tulcea, but she is also a new artist which recently came on the scene, despinte the fact that we were listening her songs at many parties/weddings.
